Half and Whole Lamb Sales
UPDATE: Our 2013 Spring lamb crop is developing wonderfully - Availability begins in August, so contact us now to reserve your share!
Our lambs at Boxwood Farm are bred on the farm with our own rams and ewes. We incorporate several breeds including Suffolk, Texel and Tunis, to maximize quality meat production while providing for a physical hardiness to flourish in Virginia's climate.
All the lambs are born naturally and are allowed free access indoors and outdoors immediately after birth. If there are ever complications, we have in-barn facilities where ewes and lambs receive regular supervision and care until they are ready to rejoin the flock. For the first few weeks, our lambs thrive on a diet of mother's milk, and as they become older and their digestive systems develop, they begin to graze alongside their mothers and later are introduced to our hand fed naturally made feed ration to supplement their development. After weaning, they grow together in their own pasture section, grazing the grasses and enjoying their natural feed made from our own home-grown grains and alfalfa hay as they become finished.
These animals are usually ready for harvest between 6-8 months of age. Once in your ownership (contract agreement), the lambs are handled by the processor of your choice (we can discuss and recommend to you local facilities in our area that are familiar with lamb processing). The finished product will come frozen and vacuum sealed, in labeled packages. We offer for sale whole lambs as well as half shares.
Our lambs have ranged between 46-65 lbs (dressed weight), with halves ranging from 24-32 lbs.
During processing each lamb or half share is fabricated into cuts to your preference - in 1 to 2 servings per package. This may typically include:
Loin Chops (1" thickness recommended)
Shoulder Chops (3/4" to 1" thickness recommended)
Rack of Lamb roast OR Rib Chops (1" thickness recommended)
Shanks
Stew / Stir-Fry meat
Ground Lamb
Leg of Lamb roast(s) OR Round and Sirloin Steaks (leg slices)
Kidney (if desired, approx 3 oz)
Lamb Liver
