Purchasing Information
Our Beef Prices
Our beef is priced by the pound, and are based upon the LIVE weight of a percentage share in a live animal, and vary slightly from season to season depending on expenses. Contact us for the current calf prices. Your price is locked in on the contract and will not rise.
Buying Beef From the Farm:
Here's how buying beef from Boxwood Farms works:
Purchase Interest (25%, 50%, 100%) in a live beef animal
When you purchase beef from Boxwood Farms, you are purchasing an interest (25%, 50%, or 100%) in a live beef animal currently on our farm. Each year we have 2 new crops of calves in 2 different seasons, from which certain animals are hand selected to remain on the farm for finishing. These animal groups ultimately become ready for harvest in early spring and late summer, respectively.
Contract and Deposit
When you decide to purchase beef from Boxwood Farms, the first thing you need to do is make a deposit to reserve your interest in a beef. Deposits are due at the time a contract is signed, are credited against your account, and are as follows:
Quarter Beef Live Share Deposit: $100
Half Beef Live Share Deposit: $150
Whole Beef Deposit: $200
This deposit serves two purposes: First, it assures us that you are serious about your beef purchase. Secondly, it provides us with a small amount of the income we need for daily cattle care during the interim period, such as fuel, upkeep of machinery and facilities, general farm maintenance, etc.
Cutting Instructions
If you are ordering a half or whole beef, we also require your cutting instructions when you place your order. All quarters are uniform to ensure everyone getting a quarter ends up with the same number of quality cuts. We are happy to sit down in person or over the phone and answer your questions and discuss cutting instructions.
Processing and Final Price
When your beef is ready for slaughter, the final poundage and price of your beef will be determined, by assessing the live weight of your beef, and by determining the processing fee for your share based upon the hanging weight of your animal.
A quarter of beef will usually feed a family of two or three, several times a week for a year, for approximately $12.50/week. It’s quite a deal.
-Your total cost comes in two parts:
Our quoted per pound price to you
+
Processing fee (approx. $0.58 cents/pound).
Beef is usually aged and ready for pickup direct from the slaughterhouse about two weeks after it has been dropped off.
We also provide delivery as a separate service to our customers for a separate fee. Please let us know if you are interested in our delivery of your live beef share.
